8. Swelling/soreness of the mouth and tongue
You can get a lot of tips about our health by looking at our mouths, iron deficiency is one of them. If the tongue appears discolored, swollen, or inflamed, this is an indication of iron deficiency. In our body, there is a protein called myoglobin, found in the muscle tissue of the tongue, which is an iron and oxygen-binding protein. Low levels of myoglobin cause the tongue to become sore and swollen. A dry mouth and red cracks in the corners of the mouth could be signs of iron deficiency.
